YDL 6.0 Internet issues

Postby vsute » 01 Nov 2008, 05:30

Hey guys I am new to all of this and have been pulling my hair out for the last two weeks trying to get this to work .

I have installed ydl 6 on the ps3 , without issues.
All i want to do is run emulators on the ps3 so I can play favourite old skool games on the big tv and hopfully be able to use the sixaxis controller too.

I have searched and read MANY of pages but none seem to relate to my issue.

I have gone through the network config to set up a wireless connection . After typing in the address' manually I get a acvite connection. But i cant use firefox broser , or the achive manager.
Every time I open the achive manager it tells me it wont run , "this may be due to not having a network connection"
What have i missed .

The connection is acvtive why cant I use fire fox or achive manager or even install the emulators .???
Please HELP .

That's all outlined in my post here:
viewtopic.php?t=3399

Remember this: On a DHCP enabled network, if you have to manually enter IP Address information to get Wireless to Activate, yet Internet access fails, 9 times out of 10, you have an error in your encryption settings. Setting IP Address information manually bypasses the initial encryption check. Your PS3 wireless will appear to be Activated, but it hasn't actually authenticated to the access point.

The rest of that post should help you get your Wireless access point connected.

Cheers,
Paul

That is yum's "friendly" way of telling you either A) it's already installed or B) it can't find the package. :mrgreen:

I have much better version of the SNES emulator in my software repository ...

First I'd suggest reading this guide to get a general idea of how to install software on YDL:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2274

And use this guide to set up my repo:
http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/bodeg ... 4352b711b2

And then use yum install snes9x-gtk to install snes9x-gtk. Once installed it will show up in your applications menu.

Also, it appears you don't have protect=1 in yellowdog-updates.repo because the number of packages excluded due to repository protections is too high (384).

thanks for all your help so far.

I downloaded snes 9x gtk like you suggested and i have been able to install it, and it works great .

I also updated everything to match the link you showed me. Although when i install snes9x gtk I had 399 packages excluded due to repository protections, but then snes9xgtk still installed which is great.

Whats the go with the 399 packages excluded due to repository protections???

Also do you know where i can download other emulators that will install as easy as this snes one did.
Im looking for a master system emulator , mega drive emulator and most of all a Nintendo 64 emulator.

Any help would be great

Thanks mate

Cheers Tim

YDL 6.0 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (via the CentOS recompile.) Red Hat Enterprise Linux does not update its core libraries as often as Fedora. Generally, they update RHEL every 3 Fedora releases. This is to increase stability, as Fedora tends to be "cutting edge". :)

If you were to load all of the packages included in a Fedora installation, the sheer number of updates to the core libraries would probably make the RHEL installation unusable. We need to protect these core libraries to keep our system stable - especially if we're using an automated package install system like YUM.

We can tell YUM how to do this with protectbase. If you follow billb's instructions here:
viewtopic.php?t=3017
it details how to set it up. Once installed, new packages will install just fine, but core libraries will be protected.

Yes. Do this. Reboot. Then, try yum install mupen64 . If the error message appears again - login as root user - and type rm /var/run/yum.pid . Then it should work fine.

You should have something like 116 packages excluded. Double check to make sure that protect=1 is set in the correct files, per viewtopic.php?t=3017

Each of your repo files should look exactly like the files listed in that post.

ok so i did the reboot like you said and tryed it again and this is what i got

[root@ps3 mupen64-0.5]# yum install mupen64
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
PS3Bodega 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
livna-stable 100% |=========================| 2.1 kB 00:00
base 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00
fedora-extras 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00
updates 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
dribble 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
extras 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
241 packages excluded due to repository protections
Nothing to do

Each time a little closer , this is so frustrating

So then i tried putting in the rm line also like u said and i got this back

[root@ps3 ~]# rm /var/run/yum.pid
rm: cannot lstat `/var/run/yum.pid': No such file or directory
[root@ps3 ~]#

not sure what it going on now

and also got this while retrying the installing software guide

[root@ps3 ~]# yum install yum-protectbase
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
241 packages excluded due to repository protections
Nothing to do
[root@ps3 ~]#
[root@ps3 ~]# echo 'protect=1' >> /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-base.repo
[root@ps3 ~]# echo 'protect=1' >> /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-updates.repo

Thats the only problem i ran into while trying it yet when i check the repos like the guide says its all correct .

Let's verify that please. Could you cut and paste the output of this command?

cat /etc/yum.repos.d/*
