YDL 6.1 installation error on PS3

Postby mkdosh » 29 Jan 2009, 01:57

After the initial installation I was able to enter install_ps3_1080p at the kboot prompt. However, it responds with a series of messages of the type attempt to access beyond end of device; want 7637524; limit 4186176. Then it returns to the kboot prompt.

I've tried reformating and reinstalling from my ISO DVD about three times with no luck.

Any ideas?

Try the suggestions in the README post under the PS3 subforum here:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2274

Starting with: "Solving problems with burning the Install DVD and installation errors"

And you've chosen the option to allot 10 GB to the "Other OS" when you formatted from the XMB, right?
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200
Powermac G4 1.25 GHz x2, 2 GB RAM, YDL 6.2

I've partitioned 10 GB for GameOS (I'm not much of a gamer).

I suspect, now, that I have corrupted ISO image. Based on what I have read I checked the SHA1SUM. It doesn't match the one at the OSU site for the yellowdog-6.1-ppc-DVD_20081119.iso that I downloaded. So I've downloaded the image again. I got a different SHA1SUM but it still doesn't match. Is it really this difficult to download?

Please HELP! Im having the same problems right at the kboot part where Im supoosed to type in install_ps3_1080i but the kboot prompt returns after some input output error messages as with the guy who just posted.
I tried hitting the tab button so that I could try each of the commands that come up. I tried each resolution and it doesnt work. Is there extra information needed for the computer to understand resolution 1080i? Will someone please take me through the process?

Did you verify your SHA1SUM as per the notes above? The above user has had bad downloads.

I don know how to check the sha1sum but I tried entering sha1sum/path/to/ydl/.iso on the kboot line on the ps3 and error messages occur. I bought the ydl disc from ebay for about 5 bucks

That's probably why.

When you download the ISO from one of the YDL mirrors - like this one:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/

There is a file there called SHA1SUM. Inside is a alpha-numeric value. There's also a file called SHA1SUM-HOWTO that lists places you can download the SHA1SUM utility.

You install SHA1SUM on your computer, download the ISO, run SHA1SUM on the ISO you downloaded. It will generate a alpha-numeric value. You compare that value to the value in the SHA1SUM file on the download site.

If they match you have a good download. If they don't - you need to re-download.

Since you bought your disc from eBay, I have no idea if it was burned correctly or not.

Paul

Since my original posting I made about six attempts to download the ISO file from two different mirrors. I never got the same SHA1SUM twice and none matched the published values on the site.

So, I purchased a commercial DVD and my installation went smoothly.
