Having trouble burning YDL 6.1 ISO to a disc

Postby JustACityBoy » 29 Jan 2009, 16:04

I have downloaded this YDL 6.1 iso bout 3 times now off the terrasoft website. I used all three of the U.S.A servers/mirrors they have, and still having the same error come up when i try and burn it to a blank DVD; "Incompatible". I've used Burn aware, Imgburn, and sonic record now.... And now since I'm frustrated and pissed, i deleted my latest downloaded iso on my desktop and downloading the same exact file! But anyway, I am using firefox web browser along with the add-on downthemall and it's file name is yellowdog-6.1-ppc-DVD-20081119.iso and it's size is 3.66GB, so I am good right so far?/?

Now it does have the sonic record now icon next to the iso(any issue with that) and does it matter to use DVD+R or DVD-R dvd's to burn the image onto the disc? Im getting too frustrated over this... and don't feel to buy any dvds over ebay. Please some help here, im going crazy!

Impossible to tell from that data. What you need to do is run SHA1SUM on the ISO you download, and see if the number it prints out matches the SHA1SUM value on the download website.

On the website where you found the ISO, there should be two files - SHA1SUM and SHA1SUM-HOWTO. SHA1SUM contains the number, and SHA1SUM-HOWTO has some links to where you can download SHA1SUM.EXE.

Paul

It can take several minutes and depends on the speed of your computer. As far as burning software, I only use imgburn.

Again - until you verify with SHA1SUM, we can't be sure. Most likely? Yes. For sure? No

I'm using DVD-R - I'd suggest trying one of those if you haven't already. The brands I'm using are mixed - Fuji, Maxell, etc. - whatever I have handy.

Okay - so I would try a DVD-R next.

Also - when you use IMGBURN, are you using this screen?
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=sc ... s#isowrite

You can't just put the ISO on a disc, or put the contents of the ISO on a disc. You have to create the disc FROM the ISO.

How do i create the disc from the iso??? And yes, but which screen shot are you stating?? I am choosing the "create image file from disc" option.... is that correct? I chose the lowest write speed and verify option "thing" is checked....

The one shown under "Write" ...

You need to use "Write image file to disc" not "create image file from disc" ... the .iso file you downloaded is the "image file."

Just to make sure - you had a DVD-R disc in the drive when you started the burn, right?

You better get DVD+R or DVD+RW media instead -- see here:
