I really really really want to do an install on my ps3, I have searched up and down for the answer to this so here it goes.


My ps3 blu-ray drive is broken, kaput. IS there ANY way to install it?

Not easily - no. You might try an external USB DVD drive.

Linux does support a network install, but I've never gotten it to work with YDL. (To be fair - I haven't tried very hard either.) That would require putting some subset of the standard YDL installer on a USB thumbdrive and loading it from there.

Anyone else have any thoughts on how to do this?

It mentions that net install is not supported on the PS3, and the guide is for 5.0.2.

Thanks for your help, but the second one still needs you to input a cd.

Will an external usb dvd drive be recognized? because I could always buy a usb-ide cable.
