After install, doesn't boot (PowerMac G4 450)

Postby cart2man » 27 Feb 2009, 12:59

I installed YDL 6.1 on my mac's internal HD. I've installed CentOS about 30 times before on other servers so I'm pretty familiar with the RH install process. I left all the defaults and everything went ok. At the end, it said it was successful and asked me to reboot after it ejected the DVD.

When it boots, all I get is the Mac screen with the folder icon in the center whose middle icon alternates between a question-mark (?) and a MacOS logo. This is what I see when the box can't find a boot disk.

Any ideas on what may be wrong?
Is there a way to get a rescue shell from the 6.1 boot DVD so I can try to get a better idea what's wrong?
Once I boot from the DVD, is there a way to reinstall the bootloader?

Thanks!

Tried booting into openfirmware and then typing
boot hd:,yaboot
boot hd:,\\yaboot
boot hd:,\yaboot
boot hd:2,yaboot
...
a bunch of varieties. Usually said something like too small.

/dev/hda1 is hfs partitition and contains yaboot, yaboot.conf, ofboot.b
/dev/hda2 is ext3 partition and contains the linux ramdisk image

Any thoughts on what I should set my boot variables to in openfirmware?

Thanks!

Has anyone got a solution for this, I'm getting the same thing with a dual G4@533.

Is it the same as viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2318 if so it's along standing problem.

Edited to add:

Fixed it! :D I had to install MacOSX first as a dual boot and it gives me a option to boot into MacOS and YDL.
