Installing YLD 6.0 on p3...i'm stuck please dont laugh..

Postby ils411 » 26 Mar 2009, 07:04

Hi, new here. just yesterday i decided to install yld 6.0 on my ps3. i'm new to linux and this is the first time i've tried installing linux or using it ever.

so got some tutorials on how to install which i followed without a hitch, but there was one error which showed up on the top of the screen, cant really remember but something like error installing x hardwae or something.

i didnt mind it much since the installation process went ok. i even went as far as the first boot setup. now here's where my problem started

the first boot has if i remember correctly

authorization
network
keyboard setup
time zone
startup (or something like that)

so i went trhough those and am then greeted by a login in:

please dont laugh but i couldnt remember the installation asking me to creat a user. i tried the system/admin password but i dont know the user

so i went over the entire installation procedure again, this time keeping track of everything but still, i couldnt find the setup for creating the use login. i looked around the entire screen and installation process, tried pressing the f12 key which was tagged as next but still couldnt fine it. i almost threw the installation disc in anger..

this is very very frustrating. someone please help me out here.

thanks.

i guess you have a problem in your X Configuration
the Xwnidow is a graphical mode either its installation or booting..
because its a ps3 and YDL the error X Hardware error was wrong youve downloaded/wrote a dameged copy you have to check the ISO using SHA1SUM
if its matches the SHA1SUM on the list.
There are some suggestions here:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM-HOWTO

Next, run SHA1SUM on the ISO you downloaded. You will get a numeric value. Compare that numeric value to the ISO listed in this file:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM

thats mean there is something wrong with your burning so use IMGBURN program (dont use other one ive tried the same) , its its not a ps3 thats mean the X Harware cannot see/configure your graphic card

in the installation youll be asked for a root password
you have to select a root password .
(root=administrator)
if you are trying to change it try to insert your dvd and reboot , youll be asked in the format/partition section select leave linux files
and continue your installation until its asked for a root password (and remember it)
after that youll be asked for new users to set
if you would like to set new users and password its ok NOTE: if you are on the internet dont use the root account (Security majors)

--------------------
NOTE: if the X Hardware error happened after an installation done. use in KBOOT ps3-boot-game-os ENTER
ther goto system settings and format your hard desk , after that make a partition 10g for OTHER OS before installing other OS
then install OS and the reboot and do what ever you want

Also - if you're installing a fresh copy of YDL - you might want to go ahead and install YDL 6.1 instead of 6.0. There's some cool things in 6.1 that make it worth the effort.

You'll want to start with this guide:
http://us.fixstars.com/support/download ... _6_1.shtml

I obtain my ISOs from here:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso

Be sure to run the SHA1SUM on the ISO you download:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM-HOWTO
and
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM

YDL's install guide is here:
http://us.fixstars.com/support/installa ... _guide.pdf

Cheers,
