kboot problems on original 20GB ps3

Postby simulant » 13 May 2009, 21:52

Hello,
I'm trying to install YDL 6.1 on my original 20GB PS3 (with an upgraded 250GB hdd). I downloaded and burned yellowdog-6.1-ppc-DVD_20081119.iso from "http://us.fixstars.com/support/downloads/". I do a Quick Format (tried Full too) and install the "otheros" boot loader, and am able to get to the kboot prompt. But when I enter "install_ps3_720p", it outputs a few lines (no errors from what I can see), then my hdtv's screen clears and goes into a "no input" state, where it stays indefinitely, forcing me to reboot.

I know that the ISO image is being burned correctly (i.e. NOT as a data file, but as an IMAGE).

The only possible clue I have to go on is a couple of error messages that pop up when kboot starts. These lines show up a few lines before the initial kboot prompt:

ps3av_do_pkt: ps3av_send_cmd_pkt() failed (result=-11)
ps3av_do_pkt: failed cid:10003 res:-11

I believe this has something to do with the bootloader not recognizing my audio/video settings, but I yet have no clue what a result of -11 means.

kboot says it's using the 2.6.23 bootloader:
kboot: uname -r
2.6.23

Any suggestions???

Thanks.

I should also mention that SHA1SUM checks out OK:
SHA1(yellowdog-6.1-ppc-DVD_20081119.iso)= 259d78e210d5681116bc5fc0d38a1017890a4ca5

Sorry - I know you probably did this, but you don't specifically mention it.

Did you repartition your PS3's hard drive from the GameOS (XMB)?

You need to give either 10 gig to OtherOS or 10 gig to GameOS before proceeding with the YDL installation.

Cheers,

No problem.

Yes, I allotted 10GB to "OtherOS"

What's the brand / model # of the TV, and how is it connected to the PS3?

Have you tried other modes? Or just doing a text install (same as 480i)?
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200
Powermac G4 1.25 GHz x2, 2 GB RAM, YDL 6.2

TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-32M4000 (32" LCD) and the PS3 is connected to the TV via an HDMI cable.

I tried install_ps3_480i and had the same problem occur.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point. Should I maybe try a different bootloader other than kboot? I've been messing around with petitboot, but no luck so far.

Do you have the Sony A/V component cables? I'd try that before I'd try using a different bootloader. Can you borrow them from someone?

You can always switch back to HDMI after a successful installation. :)

Paul,

The installation worked using the component cables! Used the same install_ps3_720p command with no issues. Also reverted back to the HDMI cable .... works beautifully, especially with my Logitech DiNovo Edge bluetooth keyboard :D

Thanks for the help!
