Actually - I think it's just one of the 6.1 mirrors:
http://ftp.aarnet.edu.au/pub/yellowdog/ ... base/RPMS/

The rest seem to have data.

So for the yum update we have to change the ydl-*.repos from 6.1 or 61 to 6.2 or 62 yea? Since I just ran a yum update remotely and nothing happened. Well something happened, it just didn't find anything to do, you know what i mean.

Yes.

There's basically two parts to this: You create new 6.2 repos and disable your 6.1 repos. See my 6.0 to 6.1 post for details.

I just get:

[root@localhost ~]# yum update
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Excluding Packages from Livna for Fedora Core 6 - ppc - Base
Finished
Excluding Packages from Fedora Extras
Finished
0 packages excluded due to repository protections
No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion

Nothing else....

And your new 6.2 repos look like????

And - why the heck are Livna and Fedora Core still enabled? Did you actually read my post? Sheesh.

If folks need an example of how to disable a repo, yet still make it available if necessary, I have an example here:

http://yellowdog-board.com/viewtopic.ph ... =15#p23070

It's just a couple of posts up from my other thread.

would there be a way to gedit those repo files with just a shell? or do I have to have a window to open a text file?

Time to download XMing, I think. :D

(I'm posting a Xming howto in your other thread. If you don't feel like starting a full desktop remotely via xdmcp, you can just start an xterm via plink/xming and run GUI applications directly.)

So - yes - there are two ways to edit it with just a shell.

Most folks use nano - probably with the -w argument to preserve word wrap.

However....

REAL MEN (& WOMEN) USE VI!!!!

(heh!)

There's a guide to vi here. It's brutal and it's ugly - but once you've learned it, you can maintain ANY Unix box - they all have it.

So what do you need help with? Editing the actual repo files? You can't get much easier than Billb's guide in the howto install software (the easy way) thread. Or do you want to know how to change to the new repos for YDL 6.2?

in the 2nd post on this topic billb has what the 6.2 repos should look like. All you have to do is make backups of your current yellowdog-base/updates/extras.repo files (i.e copy paste) and then edit the original ones to look like what billb has. basically you just change 6.1 to 6.2 in the first line, and 61 to 62 in the second line.
