Anyway, the answer is not really much better.
sh: /dev/sdd1 : Permission denied
And, yeah - ummm - /dev/sdd1 is not a command either. That's the identifier for the first partition on your external hard disc.
The logic for step 5 is this.
- Take the device that's listed in step 3. [sda] or [sdd] or whatever it is
- Add /dev to the front and 1 to the end. e.g. if [sda], then /dev/sda1, if [sdd] then /dev/sdd1
- This identifies the first partition on your external drive.
(That's the hence part)
Then, run the following commands as root:
- mkdir /mnt/extboot
- mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/extboot
(substituting your external drive 1st partition that you calculated above for the /dev/sda1 in the mount command.)
(sdd1 as my PS3 is 60GB).
A does not necessarily equal B in this case. Just because your PS3 is 60 gig does not mean your external drive is /dev/sdd. Make sure you determine that by doing step 3 in the procedure.
