If you have problems installing YDL, or need some information before you start.

installing on sdtv 480i

Some joker decided to delete my first topic. So here's my setup that I have to work with:

1 sdtv
1 40GB PS3
1 folder with stella emulator

I would just like straight answers on preparing the boot disc, installing disc, setup emulator.

Not likely -- actually we lost about a week's worth of posts recently and it was probably in that. Apparently there was some mixup in the transition of yellowdog-board.com from the old Terrasoft server to Fixstars, but I don't know any details. I just know us regulars are as frustrated as anyone else about it, if not more.

Before attempting to help, have you checked the official install guide for YDL? Read the README post in the PS3 Subforum?

Oh sorry to hear about the crash  . I'm checking out the install pdf. I still have one question though, when I prepare the DVD do I create a PS3 folder then create another folder inside the first for YDL and then mount the file in the 2nd folder or do I just mount the YDL file "as is" on the DVD?

No, none of that ... you download the yellowdog .iso file for the PS3, then use a program such as imgburn (http://www.imgburn.com -- highly recommended if you're using a PC) to burn the disc. In imgburn, you'd select the "Write image file to disc" option, make sure "Verify" is checked, select the yellowdog .iso image, then burn the disc. I'd suggest using a low speed such as 2.4x to burn the disc, as well, though that's not absolutely necessary.

The screen you use in imgburn looks like this:

If you're using a Mac or Linux to burn the disc, check out the instructions on ydl.net:

To add a little more to this thread.

Assuming you already have information stored on your PS3 - games, game saves, etc. - you will have to archive these files before installing Linux.

Linux installs require a partition/reformat of the main, internal drive. This will wipe the data from your drive.

You can use an external, FAT 32 formatted, USB hard disc for this. Instead of copying the files individually, there is a backup/restore utility in the XMB. See here for more details:

Cheers,
