problems installing YDL6.2 o PS3

Postby willyfoobar » 11 Oct 2009, 15:25

Hello,

even if I am no Linux newbie,
I have makor problems installing the ydl-6.2 on the ps3.
I tried several combinations of installation.

The system selects the wrong kernel.
It tries to use the 2.6.27-1.ydl61.4 kernel.

This kernel is not activated at boottime
The installed kernel (in /lib/modules) is 2.6.29

Due to this problems the system tries to access the kernel under

/lib/modules/2.6.27-1.ydl61.4

Due to this problem, the related modules.dep cannot be found
and none of the kernel modules can be loaded/configured

I figured out, that the file
/etc/kboot.conf
is completely missing!!!

Is this the problem?

Can anybody help me with this problem?

The .27 kernel is the 32-bit ppc one -- the PS3 should be using the .29 ppc64 one. Maybe you selected the wrong option at kboot on the initial install? Should be one of the install_ps3... options.

Hello,

I definitly used the kboot option

kboot:install_ps3_1080p
Thhat should work well. T
he problem might be, that after the installation there is no file

/etc/kboot.conf

At usual bootup time,
there is only one (dummy) bootoption called
"linux" available.
This might lead to the wrong kernel 2.6.27!!!

I am blocked out, as I cannot acces network,
no kernel modules can be loaded during bootup time.

I tried to create a new kboot.conf, but it needs to initialized in soem way.
I didn't figure out how to do this, yet.

On other thing.

When I installed ydl6.2,
at the end of theinstall process, the dvd is ejected halfway out.
I removed the disk for the next reboot!
I this the correct way to do it???

SOLVED: Re: problems installing YDL6.2 o PS3

Hello,

the installation problem occured,
as I had attached a CF Memory stick,
which was used to carry the home directory in the last (ydl-6.1) installation

The ydl installer (anaconda) got buzzed by the second device.
At that device, there was a /boot device with the 2.6.27-1.ydl61
kernel. This might be artefact from the last ydl 6.1 installation
This device buzzed the bootloader and made it boot by with the CF-Stick!!

When I removed that CF-Stick, the system booted up with the correct kernel.
After that IP was able, too.

This thread can be seen as solved.

Thank to billb, his comment set me on the correct track!

Yours,
Willy
