problem with starting

Postby orlos2 » 20 Feb 2010, 20:05

Hello. I have strange problem with YDL 6.1. I have just installed it, everything was just fine, I even changed a wallpaper and played some stupid minigame :D . Then I closed YDL and turned off the console (got to go somewhere). When I returned I turned on the console and switched OS to YDL. It started normally (two penguins and some text) but it freezed in "kboot:". I waited 10 minutes and nothing changed. I was trying to type "ydl" but then it says that command is unknown. Help :(
And sorry for my english if I made mistakes ;)

Make sure you remove the install DVD before booting.

I did it, just after installation DVD removed itself from console.

Hmm... try unplugging everything but video and see if it boots. If OK, then plug in just keyboard & mouse and try again, and so on. There should only be a short delay before it goes from kboot to booting YDL normally.

Well, aside from installing again (boot with install DVD inserted, press TAB to get to the install option you want), I think I'm out of ideas on this one ... anyone else?

I'm wondering if the install was done with an external USB drive (memory stick or hard drive) attached to the PS3 and the boot sectors are now on the memory stick and not on the internal hard drive.

When you did your installation, how did you setup the boot sectors?

Cheers,

Well... The Linux was on the DVD and files "otheros.bld" and "otheros.self" was on pendrive attached to PS3. On hard drive (also attached to USB) was just backup of my files from XMB (but I think it doesn't matter).

Paul may be onto something there ...

1 -- Please follow the official install guide (that otheros.self file hasn't been needed for a very long time, and otheros.bld is included on the install DVD -- no need to put it on a pendrive)

2 -- Reinstall without any USB drives attached.

Ok, but where I need to put otheros.bld file on this DVD? Have to make "PS3' directory there or the console wil find it itself?

It's already on the Install DVD - the console will find it itself.
