Installing from local repository/mirror

Since the online mirrors are not all that reliable for instalation, I created a local mirror and tried to install from there. I copied all the contents from the YDL 6.2-ppc DVD to a directory on my NAS and installed from there using the FTP protocol. However, when during the installation setup I get past the prompt to provide a root password, I get the following error:
YDL graphical installation wrote:Unable to read group information from repositories. This
is a problem with the generation of your install tree.

Since I copied all the files that were on the DVD, without changing them, I do not see what could be causing this.

Edit:
I also copied all the files att ftp.oregonstate.edu to a directory on the NAS and using this as a source for the installation gives the same error.
Also, I am trying to install YDL on the PS3, though I do not think it matters much
