1.4ghz g4 powerbook
installing YDL 6.2 DVD iso
internal optical drive broken

1. I created a usb with dd from the iso
2. I booted into open firmware and did
boot usb1/disk@1:2,\\yaboot
which brought me to the yaboot interface

3. at
boot:
just hitting enter will not find vmlinux

4. so I tried finding it manually
usb1/disk@1:2,/ppc/ppc32/vmlinux

which gives me errors

so

5. I had success with the netboot installer
usb1/disk@1:2,/images/netboot/ppc32.img

this brought me to the netboot installer

BUT YOU GUYS HAVE NO ONLINE INFORMATION ON WHAT IP AND DIRECTORY NAME TO GIVE THE NET INSTALLER!!!!

all your info says "use your server"

what?!?!?!?! I don't have a server! You need to specify that info.

Are you making it hard for users to install your software on purpose?!

I have totally given up the dvd install and since the neboot installer seems to be working all I am requesting now is the ip address and directory that I need to get the netinstall working

Never mind.
After searching this forum I found people asking the same question as me from like year 2007 with still no answers to their questions.

I found the answer here: http://sony-cea.hosted.jivesoftware.com/thread/2297536

when you do the net install just enter

website host: ydl.oregonstate.edu
directory: /releases/yellowdog-6.2/os/

It makes no sense at all why the ydl.net site does not have this simple information listed in easy to understand simple install instructions.
