Apple Pro Speakers quiet

Hi. I'm fairly new to YDL, although I've been using OSX on the Mac, and Linux on the PC for a while. My problem is with audio under YDL. I have a G4 dual-867 "windtunnel", and Apple Pro Speakers. They work fine under Mac OS X, but in Linux they're so quiet I can barely hear them, and that's with the volume on full blast! Does anyone know what's wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have u pulled up the mixer and made sure that its setting is turned up
