Graphical Package installer

Postby Uberhip » 12 Nov 2004, 08:38

I am having trouble using YUM I have read several threads and still have no luck. I have my base, updates, and extras all pointed to baseurl=ftp://user:pass@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/base,updates,extras.
(respective of each one, I don't actually have the commas and multiple names)

When I try to install anyting I get the same message:

Cannot find a pakage matching xxxx

happens with everything, for example I just tried gnome and got that error message.

Andd the add/remove applicatoins does not work for me as well I get the error :

Installation Tree Not Found
The path /mnt/cdrom does not look like a valid installation source

I have read about kpackage and it sounds nice can anyone reccomend a good graphical package manager and where to get it?

Graphical Package installer

Hi,

do you have an account for YDL 4.0? Do you make the necessary entries
for "user:pass@ftp.ydl.net"?
In addition there are always (i think so) the newest "rpms" on

http://ayo.freshrpms.net/yellowdog/4.0/ppc/

maybe you replace your link for that above or you make an "#" before
the old one
baseurl=ftp://user:pass@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/base,updates
--> #baseurl=ftp://user:pass@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/base,updates

an try the new one:

baseurl=http://ayo.freshrpms.net/yellowdog/4.0/ppc/

all in /etc/yum.conf

Hope that this is usefull for you, 'cause i'm a newbie on yellowdoglinux

... and sorry for my english ;

For the enhanced ydl stuff for yum. just open up a terminal su to root, mv the old yum.conf file to /etc/yum.conf.backup and then nano yum.conf copy and paste this
Code: Select all
[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
pkgpolicy=newest

[base]
name=Yellow Dog Linux 4.0 Base
baseurl=ftp://USER:PASS@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/base/

[updates]
name=Yellow Dog Linux 4.0 Updates
baseurl=ftp://USER:PASS@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/updates/

[extras]
name=Yellow Dog Linux 4.0 Extras
baseurl=ftp://USER:PASS@ftp.ydl.net/enhanced/yum/4.0/extras/

replace the respective stuff and save. (i think there are some relevant white spaces in the file-but im not sure where or exactly what; but i found that either modifying the current yum.conf or typing one myself didnt seem to work)

As for the graphical installer from what ive seen on the forum it appears that it needs to be configured before you can use it.
