ps3-video-mode NOT working on YDL 6.0?

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

ps3-video-mode NOT working on YDL 6.0?

Postby DanishDude » 11 Mar 2008, 17:02

I've just installed 6.0, overwriting Ubuntu 7.10. But when I try to enter the video mode changer in a terminal it says:

[root@localhost Christian]# ps3-video-mode
bash: ps3-video-mode: command not found

Doesn't this command work in 6.0 ? Can I change the resolution another way? Have in mind that I'm new to this :)

Be sure to read this guide.

Also, did you use the su command to become root? If so you may need to use su - instead so you'll share the path of the root user, too.

Code: Select all
su -
<root password>

ps3-video-mode

I got it!

Postby DanishDude » 11 Mar 2008, 17:58

I needed to be in full text mode and use "su - "

Now it works, but my tv cannot resize the image, so either it's to big when using fullscreen mode or it's too smal not using -f.....

But thanks anyway

TerraSoft has a HOWTO page about this very topic :) :

Ok...when I do ps3-video-mode I get :

[root@localhost ~]# ps3-video-mode
3

What is the "3" about and should the resolution change, because it surely didn't...
?

ps3-video-mode without any arguments just tells you the mode you're in.

Use ps3-video-mode -h to find a list of arguments you can try. I think the guide mentions this....

EDIT: and of course, there's no direct links to the guide. You want this page:

Thanks - I have played around with them now and sadly "3" seems to be the only one that works - and I still have those 2 inch black bars around the entire screen...

...I guess I can live with 'em :)

Did you try the "fullscreen" mode?

You could try setting it to full screen mode and using Gnome (at the login screen, click Session, and select Gnome). With Gnome you can add panels on each side of the screen, resizing them so windows don't go past the edge of your visible area. Doesn't work for full-screen applications or text mode, though.

Again - it tells you in ps3-video-mode -h, but I think you just add a -f argument. i.e. ps3-video-mode -v 3 -f.

Afterwards, just type ps3-video-mode without any arguments to get the video number you'll need to use in your /etc/yaboot.conf file.

Yeah...I have no idea what that means lol

I think I'm just going to go back to straight PS3 - the video quality is NOT HD when I download HD content via linux on the PS3 and I just don't care enough to mess with it anymore haha...it was a fun few days though!
