YDL 6 WiFi Help Needed

Postby dkoi » 13 Sep 2008, 18:12

Hi guys.
This is my first post and brand new to Linux. I just installed YDL 6 this morning. Unfortunately, I've also been reading the board all morning, and can't get my wireless to connect. I have a cable modem hooked up to a 4 port wireless-G linksys router (WRT54G). Any help you could offer would be greater appreciated.

Here are my results for: /sbin/ifconfig

Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:C5:2F:8A:00

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0.b) TX bytes:13575 (13.2 KiB)

Click “Delete”
Confirm deletion by clicking “Yes”
Confirm again by clicking “Yes”

Click on the “Devices” tab
Click on "Deactivate"

Select the Channel that your access point is using (this can be found in the management settings for your access point) (NOTE: only channels 1-11 are legal for use in the USA, please check local laws for other restrictions)
Set the “Transmit Rate” to “Auto”

Thanks, but I still can't get the wifi to work. Yours was one of the posts I read before attempting.
It's a pretty easy process but something just isn't working.

Go thru my document step by step. Especially the warnings about spaces and capitalization. Also - make sure you're using WEP Open System. For a temporary WEP Hex password, I would suggest your 10 digit phone number.

Since this is an 802.11g access point, it should work fairly painlessly. 802.11n compatible access points tend to open a whole new set of issues. :)

Is this on YDL 6.0? 6.1? What make and model of wireless access point are you connecting to? It'd be great to get as much detail on your setup as possible.
