If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

using YD4.0 as a router + printserver?

Postby Promy » 15 Dec 2004, 23:41

I just installed YD4.0 on a mac g3, and i would like to use it to connect 2 seperate lans to an adsl modem.
The first is a "cable" lan, on a dlink router, consisting of a few machines (g3,g4 and g5) connected to eth1
The second is a wireless router connected to eth2
internet is comming in on eth0 from an adsl modem

now i am not shure how to do this on YD4.0, i suppose i have to do something with iptables, but i am not shure what to write in iptables?

on top of this, it would be very usefull to have some features...
- eth2 cannot communicate with eth1 (and visa versa, so only eth1 <=>eth0 and eth2<=>eth0
- the users on eth2 have a quotum (i heard that could be done with the "- quot --quota " rule in iptables
- but can i add a bandwith restriction on top of this? like consume more than 2 gig/month ==> only 6kBs? (i found that i can set it forever by using "tc"?
-for a print server...is it enough to set the printer in kde, and share it there for it to be shared even when not logged in?
- can i limit the sharing to eth1 only?

sorry for all the questions, but i have been looking all over the net, but i seem to have lost myself in the vast amounts of information :(
