Mac Wirelss Firmware Help

After (otherwise successfully) installing YDL 6.1 on my PowerBook G4, I've been unable to get the wireless internet working properly. I tried following http://us.fixstars.com/support/solutions/ydl_6.x/airport-extreme.shtml, but had trouble with using 'lspci | grep -i broadcom' to check the version, as it took me forever to find that 'network-scripts' was located in '/etc/sysconfig', and even then, lspci didn't return anything resembling the listed output. I hoped that I had the same version of firmware as was used in the guide, and followed the instructions without any other problems, but the wireless still doesn't work.

I can't activate the device in Network Setup, and wicd doesn't let me connect.

Google has turned up a bunch of links to old threads complaining about the lack of Airport Extreme support, or links to that guide or its earlier versions, and I was unable to find anything on these forums.

Any help?
