Is it ok to update?

I'm running 6.1 with gnome and it's asking me to update, Can i go ahead with the update without messing anything up?

It depends. Do you have any extra repos added? Or are you using the default 3 YDL repos?

If you have any extra repos added - have you added protectbase yet?

The only time it's safe to update is if:

  • You're only using the three default YDL repos and you haven't added any other repos

    or


  • You're using more than the default three YDL repos, and you've added protectbase and configured it correctly

Paul,

I've experienced some trouble with automatic updates -- it seems to be picking up the fedora-extras updates we don't want even though I have yum-protectbase configured properly. I normally keep auto updates turned off under services, but I'm wondering if this is just a fluke on my system or what.

@ flip, what is it trying to update, specifically?

Well i just reinstalled 6.1 and package updater has 23 updates for me so i was wondering should i update or not, i am only using fedora and ps3bodega as repos and yes i have protect=1 all setup

Based on the discussions billb has been having - maybe it's better if you don't upgrade.

Try disabling the fedora repo and see if it still asks for updates. My guess is it won't. This is the issue billb is talking about.
