A note on JACK

Spent the afternoon wrestling with this and have finally cracked it so I figured I'd share my solution...

Trying to get jack-audio-connection-kit working, I'd installed it from the fedora-extras repository, but it refused to start, complaining that it "cannot create shm registry segment (Invalid argument)".

In my case this turned out to be down to the kernel SHM config. The system I'm installing it on is one of the old G3 PowerMacs - the blue-and-white tower case beasts - and it only has something like 256MB of RAM. The original SHM config in /etc/sysctl.conf was giving a huge value for kernel.shmmax, bigger than 256MB. Dropping it to 128MB and restarting, I'm now happily able to start jackd with no problem.

Hope that helps somebody.
