Installation of KTorrent

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

Installation of KTorrent

Postby Brabus » 22 Jan 2009, 16:34

Hello,
Im pretty new to Linux so I was searching on how to install KTorrent and I found no helpful results. Could please somebody give me just a small hint? Should I use Add/Remove programs to install it? Thanks.

Yes - use Add/Remove Software to install it. Look for it in the List tab.

HOWEVER

Ktorrent requires the KDE desktop environment libraries to run. So - if you add this, I think you'll automatically install KDE. This isn't a bad thing - just letting you know so you can estimate your hard disc usage appropriately.

No - but it needs the KDE libraries. You can run it in Gnome, E17, etc.

Man... I cannot find it in the Add/Remove Programs list. Can you please tell me the name of it over there? Or do I need to add some source? Thanks

It's actually called "pirut" and you can run it from a terminal (as root) that way. Open a terminal and either:

Code: Select all
su -l

And then enter the root password, and then:

Code: Select all
pirut

Or if you have sudo set up, open up a terminal and simply:

Code: Select all
sudo pirut

And enter your user password.

CronoCloud - I don't think Brabus was asking for the name of the Add/Remove Software application. I think Brabus was asking for the listed name of the ktorrent application.

I'm away from my PS3 right now, but I'm firing up CentOS - let me see if I can find the exact name in there.

I wasn't sure so I had to check. ktorrent is not part of the standard three YDL repos. You'll need to add Fedora-extras to pick it up.

I found a post that I made about this:
