boot hangs Bringing up interface ppp0:

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

boot hangs Bringing up interface ppp0:

Postby trash » 11 Aug 2004, 19:55

Hi everybody,

I had to stop using ydl for a while to get a load of stuff done in os9 but now when i go back to ydl it hangs during booting, always at the same place too... Bringing up interface ppp0:

I've even tried booting from the install cd but it won't let me re-install the system saying something like i need to select a root partition but selecting the drive that the root partition is on always gets refused.

any ideas?

why is ppp0 starting up at boottime?
did you change your network settings?

can you try interactive startup without the network being initialized?

I think it starts up at boot time because it is selected to in kppp(advice from the net somewhere).

My network settings change all the time depending on what i'm doing our who is using my machines for what. Basically it is either modem connection or ethernet connected to a router.

The last time i used YDL, i must have had a power failure because it does say the machine was shutdown uncleanly.

I've tried the interactive thing but it only gives me 1 second to hit 'I'... so either i never hit it in time or it ain't workin and i've tried many times.

Hm,
I'd recommend booting from CD in rescue mode and remove the
network stuff from your runlevel temporary.

Then try booting again.
