How to install "Remote PC Control" and "Totem Plug-in"

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

How to install "Remote PC Control" and "Totem Plug-in"

Postby ning » 04 May 2009, 21:09

Hi there,
please help:

1. How to install and configure the "remote pc control"?
I am using a Win2K PC and try to bring the Win desktop onto my YDL PS3.

2. Where to find and install the "plug ins" for Totem?
I tried to play movies on Totem, and it said I need to install "plus in'.

Thanks,
John

1. Win2K? Oooh - that's a tough one. It's trivial for XP and later, but hard for Win2K, since it doesn't include Remote Desktop server by default. The easiest way is probably to install a VNC Server on your Win2K box - either RealVNC or TightVNC - and use YDL's VNC client. I'll have to let you know what that's called when I get home - I don't have my PS3 in front of me. It's available from Add/Remove Software, though.

2. If you've added the extra three repos according to this post:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3017
you can get the extra plug-ins by installing gstreamer-plugins-bad and gstreamer-plugins-ugly. You can use Add/Remove Software's List tab to do this.

Cheers,
Paul

Try tsclient. I think it's installed by default.

I tried to play movies on Totem, and it said I need to install "plus in'.

This is an inelegant solution, but try this in a terminal (as root or via sudo)

Code: Select all
yum install totem* gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad

You can also search for anything related to totem in the pirut "Add/Remove Software" tool.
