Firewall/Virus protection

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

Firewall/Virus protection

Postby Ingramator » 03 Jun 2009, 13:33

In regards to installing YDL on the playstation 3 would you need to have a firewall or some kind of anti-virus on it to stop people hacking or sending you viruses? Or is this already built in?

Sorry for such a noob question

A firewall is already included with YDL and enabled by default when you install.

Hi Ingramator:

Regarding a Firewall keep in mind that in Linux a firewall is comprised of something called iptables which if you wish you can beef up if you need to. It is a good idea though to leave it alone unless for some reason you discover that hackers just love you. Regarding study or reference materials start with any decent Linux System Administration and Network Administration text and after that then examine these links:

As far as Antivirus is concerned, one of the most reliable open source programs available is clamav which you can read more about here:

http://clamav.org/

You can download the source of clamav for compilation within YDL.
