There is no Adobe Flash for the PowerPC core of the Cell processor in your PS3.

Since Flash is closed source, we can't compile one and distribute it either.

Instead, there are teams working on reverse engineering Flash from Adobe's specifications. They are slow and buggy - but they're better than nothing at all.

The main one we use is called Gnash. The other project is called swfdec.

YDL 6.2 was supposed to ship with Gnash 0.8.4 which is YouTube compatible. However, it appears that it shipped with the older Gnash 0.8.1, which isn't compatible.

If you are an experienced Linux user, you can build Gnash 0.8.5 from source code yourself:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5641&p=30535#p30402

Otherwise, you will have to wait until YDL puts the updated 0.8.4 in their software repositories. They have been notified about the issue and should be issuing a fix soon.

Paul

Only in the fact that Gnash 0.8.4 will be released for YDL 6.2 only.

Your only option for YDL 6.1 is to build a more modern version of Gnash from source, or upgrade to YDL 6.2.

And - remember - Gnash isn't a perfect substitute for Flash. It's not 100% compatible, since it's reverse engineered.

Umm - yeah - if you're going to try the build thing, you might as well stay with 6.1 for now.

Unless there's other reasons to load 6.2 - then feel free.

Hello
you can watch youtube using the mplayer or vlc mozilla plugins, grease monkey addon and some user scripts see here viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4439&hilit=vlctube#p22516 I personally think the vlc plugin is better than youtube's own :D there are hundreds of other user scripts for grease monkey for use with loads of websites, there's another firefox addon called greasefire that finds scripts for you 8)
Oh yeah and gnash takes hours to build and not as good (for youtube) as vlc/mplayer, here's another very handy addon for use with mozilla plugins, called UnPlug https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2254
mplayer can play just about any format except .swf which is where gnash comes in, unfortunately even 0.8.5 is no good for most flash (9 and over)
60Gb ps3 otheros awol. currently playing:bad company and farcry 2 again (seeing how far I can get using permadeath principle)update: regretfully Warren Clyde was involved in a shootout south of Pala and killed when he was hit by a land rover. RIP Warren
