Installed, where's the fun

Postby oldPES » 30 Oct 2009, 19:56

Hello,

I installed YDL (6.2) with the package "Office and Productivity" but with a little customization. I unchecked the box gnome and let it install the Enlightment E17 only.

Now, I hooked up my external HDD (1TB) to one usb port and nothing happens.

Should I re-install with Gnome checked and use Gnome instead E17?

That was probably not a good idea ... YDL's implementation of Enlightenment / E17 uses Nautilus (the file manager for GNOME desktop), so that might cause problems. Never tried installing it that way myself, though.

Do I need to re-install the OS or can I give it a trie to install Gnome within the OS? The reason why I ask, is because I read in the official guide that the user can install a preferred WM. I have to admit that I was even having this little thought about replacing the E17 with IceWM or xfce or something, I'm not saying they are lighter. But since I got the time, I wanted to test them on the PS3.

Btw, GLXGears gave me 170, which was acceptable imo (i know, i know,... not the greatest app).

I'd try that first, at least.

Yes, you can install your preferred WM, but be careful with not installing or uninstalling the defaults as you might unintentionally remove something you need. Fluxbox seems to be popular with some of the users here...
