adding and removing packages on 6.2

Help have just installed YDl 6.2 on PS3 and am trying to add additional packages such as VLC, transmission, etc. but when i go into system tools add/ remove packages it tries to retrieve but get error message ' Unable to retrieve software information'.nay one got any ideas?

There are several possibilities ... please follow the instructions below to get a more useful error message and copy/paste it here. It is assumed you have a working internet connection when trying to install software.

To get a more useful error message, try installing something from the command line instead using yum. To use yum to install software you need to have "super user" or "root" privileges. You don't have to log in as root, though -- the "su -" command allows you to temporarily become "root" as shown below:

Becoming root user:

Trying to install unrar -- a small archive utility that allows you to extract .rar archive files:

Yes, it appears that when you installed, you entered a username/password for a YDL.NET account but you don't have one. See the section labeled "[Errno 14] HTTP Error 401: Authorization Required" in this post:

Of course, make sure you replace the repo files with the correct ones for YDL 6.2 -- not 6.1. They are listed in this post:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3017

Alternatively you could just reinstall and make sure you don't enter a ydl.net username/password during install if you don't have a ydl.net account.
