I NEED HELP INSTALLING YDL6.2... not working

Postby andsosa » 19 Dec 2009, 19:47

I am new to this so please have patience. FYI: I recently updated to the latest software update and did a full format.

I have ready many instructions and watched several videos on you tube. I have also downloaded several versions of 6.2 to ensure that i don't have a corrupt copy.

I installed the boot loader succesfully and when I go to Settings > System Settings > Default System > Other OS.... It will as me to restart and I say yes. (yes i partitioned it)

I get the penguin screen(kboot screen) but the problem is that it keeps scrolling and it never gets to the kboot prompt. My keyboard works because i can type things while it is scrolling. If I type game and hit enter it will take me back to the ps3 OS. I haven't found any forums that mention the boot loader not getting to the kboot prompt. anyways... if I hit tab then enter (sometimes) it will configure my tv resolution and take me to the anaconda ydl setup screen. Once i'm there my keyboard stops working and mouse does too. So i can't finish the installation. I have a regular wired usb keyboard and mouse so i don't think that is the issue. is the bootloader supposed to configure my mouse and keyboard for anaconda?

I thought it was just a problem with YDL so i tried to install ubuntu and the same thing happens. KBOOT WILL NOT STOP SCROLLING!!! I can get to the setup screen there also and the keyboard and mouse quits working too!!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does it behave the same way if you unplug everything (USB) from your PS3 before booting?

As a side note, this does NOT insure that you don't have a corrupt copy. You might still have a corrupt copy - there's caching issues, incomplete transfers, timeouts, etc.

The ONLY way to be sure is to run a SHA1SUM on the ISO you downloaded.

There is a (very) quick HOWTO here:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM-HOWTO

The SHA1SUM values to compare are here:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/SHA1SUM

I'm not saying that your download is corrupt. I'm just saying that the only way to be sure is via SHA1SUM. :D

OK. I think i figured out the problem. As suggested, I restarted without any USB devices. It went to the kboot prompt right away. So then i plugged in the keyboard and it recognized it and then it went back to kboot prompt. lastly, i plugged in mouse and and it started scrolling without stopping like before. so i figured the mouse was my problem child. I don't have another USB mouse so I am proceeding with the install with just keyboard. seems to be working i will post if i get everything to work. Thanks for the help

everything worked... i can't get the internet to work though. a big part is because i don't have a mouse and can't really navigate to set everything up. once i get a mouse i should get everything working. thanks
