First add T-Clock to the shelf.
Right click on the shelf, then click Configure Shelf Contents
From the Left hand column, choose T-Clock and press Add Gadget / then press close.
Now that the T-Clock is on the Shelf, right click on the T-Clock Display and choose Configuration
The configuration dialogue illustrates time (top) and date (bottom). I prefer this setup (either / or).
To display 12 hour time, replace %T with %r
