Linux Virgin - Installing programs, ANY

Postby SmokeyPSD » 24 Feb 2010, 13:55

I really have had no exposure to linux before whatsoever, I've tried to get a number of programs onto my system but they've all been archived with no files which seem to be executeable. Tried to google and look here but havent really been able to find a clear solution which ive been able to understand. any help will be appreciated guy.

Running on YDL 6.2 enlightenment.

See here viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3017
I think what you've been doing is the windows way (going to website download .exe, install)
but dowloading linux tarballs (files generally ending .gz or .bz2) linux uses repositories, a sort of one stop shop, the above should get you on your way :D
60Gb ps3 otheros awol. currently playing:bad company and farcry 2 again (seeing how far I can get using permadeath principle)update: regretfully Warren Clyde was involved in a shootout south of Pala and killed when he was hit by a land rover. RIP Warren
