OGV Player

Postby roshi » 08 Apr 2010, 03:31

I've had trouble playing Theora OGV files with VLC Player. I have this version.

VLC media player 0.8.6c (wxWidgets interface)

Should I upgrade? Is there an RPM for the upgrade? What do YOU use?

Unfortunately, I just don't have any Theora OGV files. :( Most of mine are h.264 in .mp4 wrappers.

That being said, I do have an idea.

Try playing your Theora OGV file in Firefox 3.6.3. I know there's some Theora video code in there - Firefox has made a big deal out of their support for the format as part of their HTML5 initiative.

Now - whether or not it can playback stand-alone Theora files - or if you'll need to wrap them in some sort of HTML5 container - I don't know.

But - hey - can't hurt to try! :D

Cheers,
Paul

It does play in Firefox 3.6.3 - that's where I found the file. It streams perfectly in firefox 3.6. I downloaded it and all I get is a green screen with garble. Wouldn't this be a nice replacement for flash? The video size is smaller than swf or flv and image quality (pure opinion here) is better than anything i've seen on youtube.com.
