Just guessing here, but it sounds like the software repositories for YDL 5 are not available. At least not from the usual location.

If you could provide more information that would help. Open a terminal window, run these commands, and copy/paste the output here:

Code: Select all
su

[root password]

This should provide a listing of where your install is trying to get updates from:
Code: Select all
more /etc/yum.repos.d/*

And this may provide a more useful error message, assuming you have an internet connection:
Code: Select all
yum update

Looks like the YDL 5 online software repos are no longer available. I'll have to look around and see if there are any mirrors that are still up for YDL 5 (which is very old and unsupported).

I've read about users installing YDL 6 from a usb drive on PS3, but don't have any instructions for doing that on PowerMac. Here's a topic regarding that:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6989&start=0

Note that YDL 6.x for PowerPC is no longer officially updated or supported, either.

I haven't tried Ubuntu PowerPC myself but it's now a community supported version, as described here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ

Still not sure if there are remaining YDL 5.x software repos available -- haven't had a chance to look.
