Cannot compile CLI spreadsheet SC on YDL

Postby 8bitsofascii » 26 Feb 2013, 23:06

Hello!

Since I am trying to live in the CLI as much as possible, I wanted to have a spreadsheet that I can ring up in a matter of seconds, unlike having to load a full-fledged spreadsheet under the GUI, and then creating a New worksheet, etc...

I wanted something akin to the good old VisiCalc.

I found this:

http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/10699

The files are actually here:

http://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/apps/finan ... readsheet/

Specifically:

http://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/apps/finan ... .16.tar.gz

Description here:

Title: sc Spreadsheet Calculator
Version: 7.16
Entered-date: 2002-9-19
Description: sc is a free curses-based spreadsheet program that uses
key bindings similar to vi and less.
Keywords: spreadsheet calculator console textmode curses ncurses
Author: Too numerous to mention.
Maintained-by: nrocinu@myrealbox.com (Chuck Martin)
Primary-site: ibiblio.org /pub/Linux/apps/financial/spreadsheet
Alternate-site:
Original-site:
Platforms: Pre-7.x versions presumably worked on any Unix or Unix
clone, as well as VMS and DOS. Hopefully, this is still
true, but it's only been tested on Linux.
Copying-policy: Public domain
End

Unfortunately, it does not compile. I did a whole song and dance to get it on my iBook and then uncompressed it to a directory, then issued a "make" but I got a series of errors. Googling around there was commentary that it should compile straightforward on any Linux (and only to uncomment some parts for other Unix versions).

I am not really sure what is going on. I will try to compile in Ubuntu and maybe OS X also in a moment.

Or does anyone know how I can get a CLI spreadsheet installed on YDL? I found nothing via grep "spreadsheet" in the RPM packages.

Thanks!
