computer freezes

If you are new to YDL and have some more or less basic questions.

computer freezes

Postby DJ_Max » 04 Sep 2004, 01:50

Everytime I boot up YDL 3.0.1, after about 15-30min of use, my screen freezes, my mouse dies(I have a optical mouse, and the light dies). Same with the keyboard??

Wondering how this can be fixed, as i just installed 3.0.1 and the installation went perfectly fine.

Also, I've been noticing errors like, modprobe: can't locate module mousedev on force reboots, but thats fixed during the file system test.

The other os is talking about unable to find hostname?

Code: Select all
libpng warning: incomplete compressed datastream in ICCP chunk

with other messages when i logout of KDE,

Id take a look at the system logs (they should be in like /var/logs- not positive and not at/in a linux box) next time it happens not the time and when you restart and go to the logs scroll to that pt. and time there should be some additional info. check both the system and kernel logs.

Ok, i did a standard reinstalll, and get some of the similar errrors.

Like
can't fine your own hostname, your system is misconfigured

How do I set the hostname?

Also
something about /tmp/.ICE-unix should be set as root

This is crazy, as this is a clean install??

Now that I look at my system logs, there's no red mark by any of them like last time, the only error I see is the modprobe: can't locate mouse dev.

I also notice Apache doesn't work.
What should my ServerName be, riight now I have it set to 127.0.0.1

Also
Code: Select all
Sep  4 09:36:55 0030658138ba sshd[723]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22

Code: Select all
(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting

In the Apache log, I get this
Code: Select all
Configuration Failed!

Also, I got apache working so far, as i disabled mod_unique_id in my httpd.conf.

I main my /etc/hosts file:
Code: Select all
127.0.0.1 smallfry localhost.localdomain localhost

Ok, it froze again, but after about an hour or two. Cheked the logs and don't see anything out of the ordinary(no red marks).

Only thing is Apache
Code: Select all
Sep  4 20:00:15 smallfry sshd[713]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.

Edit: And this:
Code: Select all
Sep  4 19:42:27 smallfry kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 10:19.0-1.3 address 5
Sep  4 19:42:28 smallfry kernel: ohci1394_0: Unexpected PCI resource length of 1000!

Code: Select all
Qclipboard: unkown selectNotify event recieved

Code: Select all
Gecko: 1156 libgnomecvfs - CRITICAL ** file gnome-vfs-mime on line 929 (get_value_reall): assertion `!does_string_contain_cps (mime_type) failed.

I was just browsing the net, or had Mozilla or Firefox in the background.

Any ideas?? :?:

This is odd as well in my RPM log

Offhand the only time the isos would affect a box after its been installed is if you use the isos as the source for installing new software. (the isos will normally just give u a really flakey install) but id check them none the less and see if they check out
