I have this same problem. Somehow deleted the top menu bar on my ps3 ydl(new to linux). If someone could tell me how to get it back I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah, I'm not liking that thing too much.
I'm not liking E17 too much either.

Reinstalling is a little drastic. You can make a new account to fix the problem. BUT.... there has to be an easier way.

Ctrl-Alt-Right Arrow (or Ctrl-Option-Right Arrow on the Mac keyboard) to switch to the next desktop (1,0) and if your shelf appears there you have probably set it to "Below Everything".

If that is the case, it is hidden behind the Gnome desktop (the one with the icons) on desktop 0,0. Click on the desktop (1,0) and go to the menu item Configuration > Shelves, select shelf 0, click Advanced, and select "Above Everything"

If there is still no shelf on that desktop (1,0) then left click on the desktop to bring up the menu, go to Configuration > Shelves and add one.

Note that you can't left click on desktop (0,0) to bring up the e17 menu because that acts like the Gnome desktop and not the e17 desktop.
