Recommend a mail client

Postby cepaea_nemoralis » 30 Sep 2004, 14:36

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a mail client? I am looking for something that reads IMAP and POP mail. Also, I am looking for something that I don't have to compile myself. I am a gnome user with YDL 3.01.

Where did you get Tbird

Postby cepaea_nemoralis » 01 Oct 2004, 21:52

Ok, this connects with a question I posted to another board--I can't seem to find Thunderbird anywhere, compiled for PPC. Where did you people get it? I don't want to compile it myself. For a novice like myself, that's not an adventure I can embark on just now, as much as I would like to.

I have used Tbird the iBook that I have YDL on now, before I got rid of OS X.

You can get Thunderbird from freshrpms.net. I'd suggest adding freshrpms.net to your /etc/yum.conf file.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the advice about mail. I knew of freshrpms, but for some reason forgot until I was reminded by the postings here. Thanks again.

I downloaded T-bird 0.6; there was some problem with the 0.8 download. I am quite happy with it so far. It is far better than 0.8 for the Mac, which was always slow and unresponsive from the keyboard and mouse.

PS--I couldn't get sylpheed-claws to work because I was missing some of its dependencies--although I want to try it just because of that cool name!
