a few newbie ?

I have the ver. of yellow dog, I installed it and it works good when i couldnt get mandrake to work on my laptop but anyway i have a few ?


1. how do u load rpm files? i download gaim but it doesnt see the file or anything, is there a program installed to load these files?

2. is there anyway to load another x windows up such as Englightement? i really like the set up of it and was jw thanks for the time

how do u load rpm files?


To use rpm, cd to the directory that you downloaded it to, then do something like this: rpm -Uv rpmfile-1.0.ppc.rpm -- you'll probably have to do it as root user. See the rpm manpage for more info or this webpage:

is there anyway to load another x windows up such as Englightement?


I've never actually used Enlightenment, but I assume you could put it in your .xinitrc like so:
exec enlightenment

ok thanks for the help with the rpm

but where is the .xinitric at in yellow dog? and if you had to guess how to install it?

.xinitrc should go in your home directory, that is, ~/.xinitrc -- I don't think there is an .xinitrc to begin with, I just made mine with pico. To find an example try a Google with ".xinitrc".
