ps3+linux+ Xbox 360 HD DVD drive = HD play back???

I have a PS3 with yellowdog and a XBOX 360 HD DVD drive and wanted to know if i can play HD DVD movies through the PS3. I have heard of people using the xbox hd dvd to rip movies with the PS3 but not HD play back. Can any one point me in the right direction????? Im really trying no to buy a 360.
