Qemu+wine

Postby ukee1593 » 26 Sep 2008, 03:22

Hi folks
i have been trying to find a way to run wine off qemu in YDL. So far I have only been able to find old topics (see:http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pipermail/yellowdog-general/2004-June/014468.html)and was wondering if anyone could write a more up-to-date guide to installing this. Thanks in advance

So - let me see if I undertand what you're asking.

You want Yellow Dog to run QEMU to run "another linux" to run Wine to run a Windows application?

With the performance of QEMU on PowerPC, I'm thinking you're probably much better off running Windows under QEMU and skipping the "another linux" and Wine steps. I know that's how most of the folks with PS3's have been doing it.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance with this. :(

Cheers,
Paul

sorry about my poor explanation
I have read some nformation about Qemu and it claims that it has a user mode to allow intel processor based programs to run nativly on a PPC host system without another operating system installed. see:http://bellard.org/qemu/qemu-doc.html#SEC2

No problem! :D

That sounds very interesting. If I get a chance this weekend, I'd love to take a look at that. (Can't promise anything though - my baby daughter takes up a lot of my spare time. :D)

I tried to use that before (Qemu user mode), but I believe you also need whatever shared x86 object files the application uses installed, too, and I never followed through with it completely.
