ydl 6.1 extraction help please

Postby fighterpilot79 » 17 Jan 2009, 21:25

Hello, I downloaded the newest version of ydl and When I go to Burn it (I use nero) I have no Idea what to burn Iv seen countless tutorials and they all have one file that they burn I on the other hand have to extract a bunch of crap from mirc and then I have to sift through a bunch of files, and I still can't find the plain iso. I get folders like etc and images and ppc, ps3, repo data and yellow dog but the only things that show up when im trying to burn it are image files like minstg2 and stage2. please tell me whats going on

thank you.

I suggest using a free program called imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/

It's very simple to use ... just install imgburn, start it, insert a blank disc appropriate for your DVD burner, select the YDL 6.1 ISO file, check verify after burning, and click the 'write' button.

Also it's a good idea to check the sha1sum on the .iso file you downloaded for YDL 6.1 first -- see the README post in the PS3 subforum for instructions.

Do you have to use mirc to download?

It's much, much easier to download it from here:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/

specifically:
http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/iso/yellowdo ... 081119.iso

This also has the SHA1SUM information so you can make sure you downloaded it correctly.

I don't know what you've downloaded or where you downloaded it from ... just use the official sources from the links Paul gave in the previous post. The file you want is called:

yellowdog-6.1-ppc-DVD_20081119.iso
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200

Umm - yeah - the second link I posted is the ISO. You should be able to click on it and download it directly.

Again - why are you using mirc? None of us here use it.

Look - you're making this more complex than you have to. This should only take two or three steps.

1. You download the ISO with a web browser - preferably Firefox.

2. (optional) You check the ISO's SHA1SUM to make sure you download it correctly.

3. You create a DVD from the ISO using a disc burning program - we prefer the free program IMGBURN: http://www.imgburn.com/

That's it.

The problem appears to be that mirc is opening the ISO like some kind of zip file. You don't want to do this. ISO's are like a snapshot of a DVD - not only do they contain files - but they capture every disc sector including partition tables, boot sectors - stuff that mirc is going to ignore.

Seriously - you don't want to use mirc for this.

If, for some reason, you're unable to download IMGBURN, you can use Nero to burn the ISO. Follow the instructions here:
http://www.wizardskeep.org/mainhall/tutor/neroiso.html
