Postby AzimScot » 23 Jun 2009, 00:45

Hi,

Does anyone know if Linpus Linux Lite O/S plays all flash files like windows xp? I see YDL and other linux based platforms cannot play adobe flash video on majority of website on the web.

Please confirm.

Thanks.

This statement is incorrect.

Your statement should be that Adobe has not released a Flash player for any PowerPC-based computers running Linux.

Adobe has a perfectly fine Flash player for x86 (i.e. Intel) based Linuxes.

This lack of PowerPC support is squarely Adobe's fault. It is not a fault of PowerPC Linuxes like YDL, per se.

Unfortunately, Adobe Flash is closed source - so we can't re-compile it for PowerPC Linuxes either.

There are open source projects - gnash & swfdec - attempting to reverse engineer Flash from Adobe's specifications, but these are slow and buggy.

As for Linpus Linux, that is only for x86 computers. It won't run on your PowerPC Linux computer, although it might run under QEMU emulation.

According to their site documentation, it can run Flash.

Cheers,
Paul
