Yellow Dog tutorial ideas?

Postby olliesarea » 29 Jul 2009, 18:06

Hi,
Back in January I created a part 1 and part 2 guide on youtube of how to download and install 6.1 on a PS3, here they are:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZS84KYlAzw
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8RaPYZheSc&feature=related
But those videos were on my random videos channel. Yesturday, I decided to create a new channel, called YellowDogTutorials, this is going to be my channel for yellow dog tutorials. here is my part 1 guide for 6.2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkupMUgqIkQ

The problem is, I don't really know the main areas that need tutorials for, I know Youtube for yellow dog is a common issue, but I was wondering if you guys could help me out by giving me some ideas for video tutorials to create? or any recommendations for improving future videos etc.
Thanks a lot!
Ollie

p.s. I'm new to this forum, so sorry if i posted this topic in the wrong place, let me know if i have.

Gnome is already installed on your YDL system.

Use the Session "button" on your login screen to select it.

To install KDE:

  1. Start Add/Remove Software
  2. In the resultant Package Manager window, select the Browse tab.
  3. In the left column of the Browse tab, select "Desktop Environments"
  4. In the resultant list of desktop environments in the right column, select the "KDE" checkbox
  5. Click Apply

After it's installed, you would select it via Session as you would Gnome or E17.

Cheers,
Paul

How to install software in YDL 6.2:
1. Run Add/Remove Software and select the program you want from the LIST tab.
2. If you download an RPM manually, double click on it.

How to update software in YDL 6.2:
1. Run "Software Updater"

I already posted an answer to how to change E17 here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6518&p=32457#p32452

Could you elaborate more on what you want? These seem pretty straightforward to me.

60Gb ps3 otheros awol. currently playing:bad company and farcry 2 again (seeing how far I can get using permadeath principle)update: regretfully Warren Clyde was involved in a shootout south of Pala and killed when he was hit by a land rover. RIP Warren

thats a cool idea. the only part that kinda sucks though is that people will have to switch back and forth between YD and XMB to watch the tutorial (Damn you adobe !!!) u should do a video on how to enable blue tooth on the ps3 controller, that seems to get alot of people. also tcrroadie's warp speed guides are golden.
