YUM freezes

Postby R4000 » 10 Jan 2010, 17:33

Hey guys, just finished getting YDL to work on my PS3. But now I'm having problems with YUM.
It used to work fine but now it just does this:
Code: Select all
[root@playstation mediatomb]# yum install sqlite sqlite-devel
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Excluding Packages from Livna for Fedora Core 6 - ppc - Base
Finished
Excluding Packages from Fedora Extras
Finished

then freezes (i've tried leaving it for a few hours...)

help please.

The repo configuration you're using has some issues with YDL 6.2 due to the addition of packages in yellowdog-extras for YDL 6.2. A couple of options:

A. Disable yellowdog-extras (change enabled=1 to enabled=0 in /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-extras.repo)

Code: Select all
su -

<root password>
Code: Select all
gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/yellowdog-extras.repo

(change enabled=1 to enabled=0, save change, close gedit)
Code: Select all
yum clean all

Code: Select all
yum install sqlite sqlite-devel

There will still be a delay, but more like a minute or so.

B. Or ... run without using protectbase which is what is taking so long:

Code: Select all
yum erase yum-protectbase

Most of the problems you'd run into will (hopefully) be avoided since most of the packages normally excluded are also manually excluded in the fedora-extras.repo file. However, if you're going to use fedora-extras and livna you're probably better off disabling yellowdog-extras in either case. What happens is you go to install something from livna which relied on the version in fedora-extras but yellowdog-extras offers a newer version and then ... ugh. :mrgreen:

I haven't done a great deal of testing on YDL 6.2 with that repo setup (fedora-extras + livna + dribble). It worked very well with YDL 6.0 - 6.1. Lately I've been working on a stand-alone repo for YDL 6.2 as described here:

http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/bodeg ... f=28&t=555

That's meant to be used with just the default yellowdog repos enabled.

Hi got the same problem. I restarted the ps3 and did the above and got this;

Code: Select all
[root@localhost ps3]# yum clean all
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 4200. Aborting.

and;

Code: Select all
[root@localhost ps3]# yum clean all
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running as pid 4200. Aborting.
