Apple Pro Keyboard - -

Postby roshi » 06 Feb 2010, 17:09

Ive searched the forums for keyboard related issues. I've seen no questions nor adequate replies regarding Apple Pro Keyboard eject button issues. How does one make the eject button on an Apple Pro Keyboard function properly? I use the terminal command eject /dev/cdrom with success - but surely there is a better way ( and don't call me Shirley). I've tried to eject from 'My Computer' - this works when media is loaded / mounted. I am seriously new to YDL and would love a solution from any of the forums gracious knowledge suppliers. I will continue to read the forums and will continue to try additional hardware devices. Many thanks in advance - -

You're in luck, I have an Apple keyboard hooked up to my PS3. :-) Just tested out a method to see if it worked, but I already used the method to use F15 for "PrtScr"

http://hansmi.ch/articles/apple-keyboard-with-linux

In fluxbox it's as easy as:

Add the following line to .fluxbox/startup
Code: Select all
xmodmap -e 'keycode 204 = XF86Eject'

Add the following line to .fluxbox/keys
Code: Select all
None XF86Eject :ExecCommand eject -T

And exiting to the console and restarting X and fluxbox.

I will try this as soon as I get home, today! Thank you for a very quick reply. :D I've rarely had issues with computers because I use them for file storage and management; however, I would like to use the super drive with this computer. I'll let you know the minute the eject seat works (james bond to Q).

I couldn't find (searched for it) fluxbox/startup on my YDL setup - guess i don't have it. I did the following :

Begin at the YDL menu ---> Configuration ---> Configuration Panel ---> Keyboard & Mouse ---> Key Bindings ---> Add Key

Now Press the Eject Key (in the background this is Keycode 204)

Now to the menu on the Right Under LAUNCH, Press "Defined Command"

Now, type the following code In the "Action Params" blank

Code: Select all
eject /dev/cdrom-hda

Press Apply

Press OK

Press Close

Voila!

Thank you Ron Rogers for your help!

And thank you for posting your method too. I don't use the default Enlightenment window manager so I actually don't know how to do certain things in it.

I prefer the KISS method. I will post more of my Enlightenment as it occurs.

I'm using the same Apple Pro keyboard I used with YDL on my PS3 with Fedora 12 on my x86 box. I just hit the eject key and it popped out the CD tray.....what's the fun in it automagically working without me actually doing anything. Fedora 12 is spoiling me like that.
