Gnash 0.8.7 build

Postby ppietro » 19 Feb 2010, 09:03

Hi everyone,

Just built Gnash 0.8.7. Looks like it's fixed the issues with YouTube. Performance is still iffy - plays very slow - but the controls appear to work now.

I'm still poking around YouTube - I'll let you know how it goes.

Built with these options:
Code: Select all
./configure --enable-gui=gtk --enable-media=ffmpeg --disable-speex --with-plugins-install=system

then:
make
make install
make install-plugins

Bummer. I've already found videos it won't play. Seems to be the whole SWF 9 vs. SWF 10 thing again, according to File --> Properties within the Gnash playback window.

Example:

On the other hand, most videos playback with good controls, and it works better with the user pages:

I've built it successfully but all I'm getting is a gray square where the video should be. I just noticed that I did not use the --disable-speex option oops! Could that be the reason for the gray square?

Building Gnash is an arcane art. I stick with the ./configure as given. :D

So - yeah - that could be the reason. :D

Hello
I haven't been home to build gnash 0.8.7 yet but previous builds complained speex was too old so downloaded the latest compiled and gnash built ok with it.
speex is just a codec optimised for spoken audio http://www.speex.org/
it's not widely used but some talk radio stations use it
60Gb ps3 otheros awol. currently playing:bad company and farcry 2 again (seeing how far I can get using permadeath principle)update: regretfully Warren Clyde was involved in a shootout south of Pala and killed when he was hit by a land rover. RIP Warren
