YouTube is working again? (Gnash 0.8.7)

Postby ppietro » 11 Oct 2011, 09:45

Hi everyone,

Working on the PS3 tonight, I ended up heading over to YouTube to check something.

Lo and behold, when I went to an individual video page, something loaded. In fact - it looked remarkably like a regular YouTube Flash video - with arrows and everything.

So - I figured - let's click the play button for laughs and watch it fail.

Instead - it played.

Now - this is a build of Gnash 0.8.7 I compiled myself. I'm not sure what the current version in the ps3bodega repos is.

Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

NOTE: I have greasemonkey installed, but since they haven't updated YouTube Without Flash Auto in ages, I have it turned off.

Cheers,
Paul

I believe I just have 0.8.2 -- haven't really looked into updating it since I figured it wouldn't work, but this is interesting now ...

Just a note: The video performance isn't stellar - pretty low framerates. Kind of like when you try to playback h.264 video. :D

But - it's working - even the video position bar.

Is it much of a pain to build as far as dependencies for YDL 6.2?

Honestly, I can't remember.

Luckily, our board can. :P

Here's the build switches I used:

./configure --enable-gui=gtk --enable-media=ffmpeg --disable-speex --with-plugins-install=system

Some source is here:
http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/gnash/0.8.7/ ... 8.7.tar.gz

Here's a link to CronoCloud's original post on getting it working:

And a link to one of my build sessions:

If you have the Gnash RPM installed, you might want to remove it first. :)

It appears to build using standard devel RPMs - I don't think you need to custom build anything. I do remember it taking about an hour though. :(

OK then, I'll try building it on the PowerMAC tonight. :)

I left it building gnash 0.8.7 this AM ... will see if it finished this evening. I used a src.rpm from 0.8.5 and modified it slightly. If it builds OK and works I can add it to ps3bodega.

Built OK and Youtube no longer tells me I need a plugin, but it hangs when I try to play a video. minitube isn't working properly with my ISP either, though, so it could just be something odd going on there. Planning on fixing that in the next week or so, though... ;)
