Unsure. I can't find anything on Fixstar's site either. Anyone else have a release date?

Yes. PowerPC is a subset of POWER7. As wikipedia says
PowerPC is largely based on IBM's earlier POWER architecture, and retains a high level of compatibility with it; the architectures have remained close enough that the same programs and operating systems will run on both if some care is taken in preparation; newer chips in the POWER series implement the full PowerPC instruction set.

See here:

Also - we've discussed more about it here:

It's unknown really. Until I see the binaries, I can't tell you for sure.

Since PowerPC is a subset of POWER7, YDL 7 might just be a straight PowerPC compile. This would run on your mac-mini PPC or their big IBM POWER7 machine.

However - if they've compiled YDL 7 against POWER7 specifically, then no. You would need to have a POWER7 processor to run it. :(

The only thing we know for sure is that Fixstars tells us it is for their PowerLinux - 7R2 Yellow Dog Appliance. If we take them at their word, then chances are we won't be able to run it. :(

UPDATE: This doesn't bode well. From http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/ydl7/support/index.shtml

Yellow Dog Linux 7 is currently only supported on the IBM PowerLinux 7r2.
