Firefox ESR 10.0.12 available

Postby ppietro » 25 Jan 2013, 18:56

Hi everyone,

It looks like Firefox ESR 10.0.12 sources are on CentOS's mirror. I'll convert the SRPMs to YDL format and build it.

Normally, I build it for YDL for CUDA, but I'm thinking I'll generate the PowerPC build as well. That may take me a little bit of time, so stay tuned!

Cheers,
Paul

Hi everyone,

Okay - I have created the YDL SRPMs from the CentOS SRPMs. I'll try building a PowerPC version this weekend. When I get it done, I'll post a link here.

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

Well - this has been a challenge on a PS3, due to lack of HD space. The latest Firefox builds require more swap than I had by default. So - I created a 256M temporary swap file. This let me build the code, but I ran out of hard disc space after the link. This is kinda sad, since, with all the hard disc swap, a build takes roughly 10 hours.

I tried freeing up some space and building again, but 10 hours later, I ran out of disk space. This time, rather than scratching everything, I deleted the 256 M temporary swap, and I tried this rpmbuild string:

Code: Select all
setarch ppc rpmbuild -bi --short-circuit --ppc xulrunner.spec

This might let me pick-up the RPM packaging stage without having to spend 10 hours rebuilding the source. Keep your fingers crossed! :)

Cheers,
Paul

Hi everyone,

Okay - I've posted the build. The build step I posted above didn't work. Well - it worked, but it didn't generate an RPM. To get the RPM, I had to hack my spec file to basically skip the %prep and %build steps. I'll spare you the details, but I don't recommend it. :)

Anyway - the build is here:
http://www.weasel-bot.com/~paulp/ydl/firefox_10.0.12/

This is my private server. It's not a repository - just a web directory. You'll have to download the RPMs manually and install them.

You'll want to download these two at least:
http://www.weasel-bot.com/~paulp/ydl/fi ... -1.ppc.rpm
http://www.weasel-bot.com/~paulp/ydl/fi ... -1.ppc.rpm

You can install them via yum like this:
Code: Select all
yum --nogpgcheck localinstall firefox-10.0.12-1.ppc.rpm xulrunner-10.0.12-1.ppc.rpm

If you need libvpx I've posted it there as well. Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Paul

Side note: If you need libvpx SRPMs that will build in YDL, they're already on the board:

Paul,

First of all, thank you SO MUCH for all your efforts. Because of your EXCELLENT prior instructions specific to building Firefox 3.6.3, my YDL 6.2-powered Apple iBook G4 is now browsing at least twice as fast as it was under 3.0.4. My question is related... Considering that I'm using an older ~1.2Ghz laptop w/only 1.25GB of RAM, will 10.0.12 even run on it? Even more important (as 3.6.3 seems to be working fine for me at the moment), what would the performance of 10.0.12 be like on my little G4?

Thanks in advance for the clarifications and, again, thank you SO MUCH for your AWESOME YDL-related support efforts!

Sincerely,

Tim N.
